So, who is Denise Buisman-Pilger? well I was born in Amsterdam and that’s where I went to middle and highschool. After that I studied Illustration at the Willem the Kooning Academy of Arts in Rotterdam where I graduated in 2002. Since it was hard to find work as an illutrator at the time I learned how to use the computer and got into graphic design. I’ve worked in the magazins and advertising bussiness, and at the moment I am the Art-director of the Dutch retail magazin Hotspot. I do the complete layout and design plus any other creative byproducts that come my way.
In my spare time
In march 2006 I moved to the United States to join my husband, who is working here for a Dutch company. We live in Fort Worth, TX with our cat Tigger and at the moment we are waiting to hear where my husbands work is going to take us next. When I’m not behind my apple or my easle you can probably find me either on the back of a horse or with my nose in a book. I have enjoyed horsebackriding since I was 7 and at the moment I’m learning to train young horses which is a huge challenge. I usually ride several times a week. Besides that I love reading, mostly fantacy but I also enjoy a good thriller or classic literature. I also like playing computer and board-games and watching a good television series, I’m a big fan of Doctor Who. My husband and I also love to travel (yeah I know, the fact that we live in Texas kind of gives it away :D). We like to go places where we can do some scuba diving or skiing, we want to see as much of the world as possible.
My Art
When it comes to my work as an artist I am pretty versitile when it comes to techniques. I use oils as well as acrylics and when I’m doing live figure drawings I also like to use charcoal, pastels and indian ink. Another technique I am quite fond of is a combination between painting and photo collage. I like to manipulate images on the computer, print them out and paint over them, I love textures and layered work. I’m also a big fan of my digital camera, I try to take it with me whenever we’re going somewhere worth photographing, which is quite often with us living in the states at the moment. I love traveling and I love to combine this with my artwork. I try to capture the, for me, essential elements of a place I've visited and put them in a single image that represents that place for me. Usually I take loads of pictures, which comes in handy when I’m making my photo collages. I like photographing crazy thing as sings and worn walls and such. I also do portraits of your favorite companion, I just need a picture and some time, you can see some examples in my Art made to order gallery. contact me for information about sizes and prices.
